Who We Are

The Life Support and Sustainable Living (LSSL) Program is a culmination of educational and industrial resources working together to produce the next generation of workforce recruits.

Industry today is facing a high rate of turnover due to the aging of the current workforce.  This high rate of turnover, coupled with the tumultuous global marketplace, increases the demand for individuals who have the ability to step into a position and "run with it." Education successfully produces individuals with classroom/technical knowledge but many of these individuals often lack the basic "soft" skills and hands-on experience sought by industry.  It is for this reason that education and industry must work together to produce the workforce of the next generation.

The LSSL Program, integrating education and industry, receives significant support through Advanced Technical Education (ATE) - National Science Foundation (NSF) grants, the Connecticut Space Grant College Consortium, as well as direct funding from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Johnson Space Center. The Program also has many industrial and medical supporters/contributors including: Hamilton Sundstrand, KAMAN Aerospace Corporation and the Connecticut Children's Medical Center.
